Kindergarten Here We Come!
It's Kindergarten Eve here in Summit County!
Frankly, this milestone is way more than just about starting school. It's about our family joining a new community. A mountain community that we have experienced as outsiders since we moved to Colorado in 2006.
But, now....we're locals.
Our son is more than ready. He's excited to go to his school. I'm sure there will be some tricky transitions and challenges in the early weeks (and maybe beyond), but overall I know he is prepared.
His new teacher visited the condo the other day and got to know our family a bit better. Our son had a list of 13 questions to ask her (only 2 belonged to me!). He's always been a questioner and I loved that he wanted to know all about the routines and when he would get to have snack and what games they would play in gym class.
I recall telling friends that if we can be living in the mountains by the time our son starts kindergarten, we'll be beyond excited. And, here we are. Living in our small town, about ready to starting building our simple home (more on that to come), and loving life with our family.
There is a section in the 2009 Warren Miller Dynasty movie about a family who moved from California to Sun Valley, Idaho when their kids were young. They wanted to experience all that mountain living had to offer, and make more time to be together as a family. I distinctly recall watching the movie with Kelsey and some other friends at the Boulder Theater. When that section came on, I remember thinking that is the kind of life that I want.
It's feels so darn good to be making it happen.
As we were putting the boys to bed tonight, we told them that we hope that someday they can tuck their kids in bed and reminisce about our first summer in Summit County and how rad it was to grow up in the mountains.
Now...hopefully I can hold it together tomorrow at drop off. Fingers crossed.
