Read MoreWe passed our final inspection on January 29 and promptly celebrated with Chinese food, my grandma’s famous chocolate cake, and of course fancy champagne! We’ve now been in our new month so far! Can you even believe it?!

Read MoreWell, here we are after Christmas. You’re probably not surprised, but I’m grumpy. We desperately wanted to be in our new home for Christmas, but it just wasn’t in the cards. Our list to receive our certificate of occupancy is dwindling, but there is still more to do.
Read MoreWe also have had to be flexible with COVID-related school and daycare closures for the boys. Trying to balance my full time work, Kelsey leading the home-building charge and helping the boys with remote learning doesn’t always lead to the most productive days on the job site. We’re doing the best we can, yet still feel frustrated some days with the slowing down of our process toward receiving our certificate of occupancy. Of course, we remain grateful for our health, but still...sigh.
Read MoreAfter a flurry of activity, Mom and Dad left for Michigan on October 18, staying about 10 days longer than they originally planned. They arrived on Labor Day weekend and hustled at the house every day. We’re so appreciative of their time and effort! It was a huge boost to our morale to wrap up some big projects while they were here!

It’s kind of amazing that when you think about building a home, you imagine what appliances you’ll pick, the faucets for each bathroom, or the paint colors for all the spaces. In reality, these things are the final choices you make. There is so much that goes on before all that fun stuff.

When we left off at our last update, we had just passed a critical inspection, the radiant tubing and wire mesh. Yippee!
That inspection happened on Monday, April 27 and by the end of the week, it was time to pour the floor!
